A Shamanic Witch's Guide to April

A Shamanic Witch's Guide to April

March 31, 20254 min read

"April is a time for listening to what's waking up within you and also what is still feeling a little bit tender."

As we step into April, the air is filled with possibilities. The land is shifting, the light is changing, and life begins to stir once more. This is a month not about rushing into bloom but about nurturing what is just beginning to awaken. Let me takes you on a journey through the energies of April, revealing the astrological happenings, plant spirits, and rituals that align with this transformative period in the wheel of the year.

A Shamanic Witch's Guide to April

April's Energetic Shift

April always feels like a threshold—a moment where the land comes alive with buds, blossoms, and bird song. The energy is palpable, a gentle stirring both above and below. I invite you to embrace this emergence, to listen and grow at our own pace. It's a month to shake off the remnants of winter, clear space, and truly engage with oneself. It's less about having everything figured out and more about meeting yourself where you are.

Astrological Influence

April's skies are busy with celestial activities. On the 13th, the full moon in Libra, known as the Pink Moon, lights up our night. Named after the wild ground phlox, this moon carries the energy of early blooming. Libra infuses the moon with themes of balance, beauty, and relationships — with others and with oneself. I suggest engaging in mirror work or cord cutting rituals to address areas of imbalance and misalignment in our lives.

Later, on the 27th, the new moon in Taurus presents its earthy and sensual energy. It's an invitation to ground yourself and set intentions related to stability, nourishment, and the things that matter most. Taurus encourages us to slow down, come back into our bodies, and focus on what feels deeply rooted.

Spring's Forgotten Rituals and Traditions

April Fool's Day holds deeper meaning beyond the pranks and jokes. There is a belief that it originates from the 1500s when France transitioned from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian. Prior to this, New Year's Eve was marked around the spring equinox, aligning with the natural rhythms of the earth. I reflect on how more aligned this feels compared to the current mid-winter New Year's Day. By reclaiming April 1st, we step into new beginnings and embrace the energies of rebirth and renewal.

Embracing the Element of Nature

April is full of traditional sayings, often closely tied to the land and weather. These phrases serve as reminders of a time when living in harmony with nature was second nature. With the land waking up, I encourage you to listen deeply to the earth and tend to our personal environments with equal care. It's a time to connect with the spirit of our surroundings and honour the natural wisdom that guides us.

Plant Allies for April

Let me introduce three plant allies perfect for April: nettle, dandelion, and willow. Nettle is bold, full of vitality, and excellent for energy work and protection. It's a reminder to set strong boundaries and support physical and energetic strength.

Dandelion, bright and resilient, embodies movement and transformation. Known for its diuretic properties, it encourages releasing what no longer serves us. As a magickal plant, dandelion aids in wish work, spirit communication, and letting go.

Finally, willow, deeply feminine and intuitive, connects us to the elements of water and emotion. It's perfect for moon work, especially under the pink moon, and an ally for easing physical and emotional aches.

Magickal Practices for April

The magick of April is slow, earthy, and patient. It's about laying solid foundations and working on grounding and stability. This fertile energy is ideal for money magick, home care, and career growth. I advise engaging in fertility magick not just for literal offspring, but for birthing new ideas and projects. Plant seeds with intention, journey with plant spirits, and connect with nature in simple yet profound ways.

April's theme of purification encourages us to spring clean both our physical spaces and energetic bodies. Cleanse your space using smoke, salt, water, or even eggs. Reflect on what needs to be released to make way for new beginnings.

And as we approach Beltane, the fire festival marking the height of spring, there are exciting energies that Beltane will bring, offering a sneak peek into the upcoming Beltane Bundle designed to deepen our connection to this seasonal celebration.

This April, as I invite you to explore the wild and untamed pathways, let us embrace the quiet transformations and prepare for the vibrant energies just around the corner. Join me in this journey of rebirth and renewal.
