A Witch's Guide to June

June 02, 20255 min read

“June moves fast, and it is so easy to blink and to miss the things that you actually really wanted to make time for.”

As the sun reaches its zenith and the world is awash with the wild abundance of June, many of us may find ourselves swept up in this surge of light and energy - sometimes exhilarated, sometimes exhausted, always aware that the wheel of the year is turning whether we’re ready or not. This month is not only about celebration, but reflection, intention, and connection with both land and self.

A Witch's Guide to June

The Whirlwind Energy of June

The journey into June can feel like a whirlwind: the quiet whispers of spring suddenly explode into full bloom, the sun lingers late into the evening, and energies around us (and within us) are louder, brighter, and impossible to ignore. Everything is pushing up and out and forward, whether you’re ready for it or not. For witches, shamanic practitioners, and lovers of earth-based spirituality, June offers a potent time for both inner and outer transformation—but the sheer intensity of this season means it is equally important to move mindfully.

The 6/6 Portal: Harmony and Honest Reflection

Early June begins with the numerological 6/6 portal. The number six speaks to harmony, healing, love, and emotional responsibility. It calls us back into alignment - not through grand gestures, but through honest reflection and small, loving acts that recenter us.

To harness this energy, I suggest carving out a simple moment to check in with your heart. This could involve lighting a candle, holding a comforting crystal like rose quartz or moonstone, and breathing gently into your chest—imagining your heart has nostrils and is drawing in each breath directly. Ask yourself: where have I been pushing too much? What needs softening in my heart, my home, my relationships? Alternatively, gentle actions such as making a calming cup of herbal tea with hawthorn, lemon balm, or rose and drinking it slowly can be equally powerful.

For those feeling overwhelmed by all the 'shoulds', the message is clear: you do not need elaborate rituals to honour this time. “Even the simplest of things… just be present with it” can become your magick.

The Strawberry Full Moon: Ripening and Wild Abundance

June’s full moon, called the Strawberry Moon, after the short, sweet strawberry harvest of indigenous North American traditions - reminds us to celebrate what is coming into fullness. This is a moon of ripening, both on the land and within ourselves. Under its light, reflect on your own metaphorical fruits: what is coming to fruition in your life? What can you now gather or celebrate as complete?

Astrologically, this Strawberry Moon is in Sagittarius, a sign of boldness, fiery expansion, and forward-thinking energy. This makes the full moon especially powerful for release work and for setting intentions related to self-belief, freedom, and new perspectives. Ritual suggestions range from burning old journals and taking solitary, truth-speaking walks, to fire offerings that mark transitions.

I also honour the tradition of foraging: gather seasonal flowers or fruits, make a small offering to the land, or create something simple in your kitchen as a gesture of gratitude. The strength of this practice lies in its personal resonance - not in outward show.

Cancer New Moon: Coming Home to Self

As the month progresses and the new moon moves into Cancer, emphasis shifts from fiery expansion to watery introspection. Cancer energy draws us home — into our bodies, our families, our emotional worlds. This is a powerful moment for setting intentions around self-care, boundaries, and what it truly means to feel at home.

Create a simple altar with shells, rose quartz, or moonstone; journal about what “home” feels like to you; or simply devote time to yourself — run a bath, turn off your phone, and say ‘no’ where you need to reclaim space. With Mercury’s pre-retrograde shadow approaching, this is also a good time to revisit old intentions and give yourself plenty of breathing room.

Summer Solstice: Fire, Abundance, and Ancestral Roots

At Midsummer (Litha), the sun stands at its highest point—making June’s solstice a day of maximum fire, light, and wild potential. Our ancestors marked this time with bonfires and feasting, honouring both gratitude for abundance and the next cycle of growth.

The solstice is not about doing everything perfectly. I recommend finding what is real and seasonal for you: working with herbs like St. John’s Wort (protective and uplifting), lavender, rose, or local wild plants; weaving flower mandalas or making sun-charged water; holding a candle-lit fire ceremony to release the old and energise the new. Even eating fresh strawberries or elderflowers with your hands outside can become ritual.

Stones, Plants, and Sun Magick

June brings a host of stone allies—pearl (for emotional wisdom and balance), moonstone (for intuition and synchronicity), and the rare alexandrite (for supporting transition and duality). Wear these stones, use them in meditations, or place them on your altar to harness their energies this month.

Seasonal plants, especially those local to your land lend themselves beautifully to teas, baths, charm bags, or kitchen magick. Consider making solar-infused teas or herbal oils, and let the changing light help you live in harmony with nature rather than simply observing it.

Crafting Your Own Seasonal Practice

Above all, just trust that your practice gets to look like your practice. It doesn’t have to be anybody else’s. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Perfection doesn’t even exist. You do you. Mark June’s fire and feeling in your own way through ritual, quiet time in nature, or simply by noticing what emerges around and within you.
